Lauren Vowell, RDH, OMT is a Houston-area myofunctional therapist and registered dental hygienist with over 25 years of experience in dentistry, specializing in orofacial myofunctional therapy and airway health. She helps children and adults address the underlying causes of issues such as mouth breathing, tongue thrust, TMJ pain, clenching, grinding, sleep-disordered breathing, poor tongue posture, and facial muscle dysfunction.
Lauren provides myofunctional therapy in Houston and virtually, focusing on improving nasal breathing, tongue posture, oral muscle function, and airway development. Her work supports patients experiencing TMJ symptoms, orthodontic relapse, sleep disturbances, chronic mouth breathing, and airway-related dental concerns. By retraining the muscles of the tongue, lips, and face, Lauren helps patients achieve healthier breathing patterns, improved sleep, and better long-term oral function.
After working in an airway-focused dental practice, Lauren became passionate about helping patients identify the functional causes of airway and oral development problems that are often overlooked in traditional dental and medical care. She completed certified training in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy through the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) and is proud to serve as a Breathe Institute Ambassador, collaborating with airway-focused dentists, orthodontists, and ENT specialists dedicated to improving breathing, sleep, and oral function.
Lauren works closely with a network of Houston airway dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, and sleep professionals to provide collaborative care and comprehensive treatment for patients with orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs).
She is an active member of the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM), the American Academy of Physiological Medicine and Dentistry (AAPMD), and the Airway Houston Study Club.
When she is not working with patients, Lauren enjoys spending time with her three children. She is an avid rock climber and runner and lives in Richmond, Texas, where she continues to advocate for airway health and functional wellness in both children and adults.
